Every CS:GO player has had this experience: a millimetric misposition that ruins a frag, reveals your whereabouts and absolutely messes up your gameplan. To avoid this kind of disappointment, we asked Team Kinguin’s CS:GO coach Mariusz “Loord” Cybulski to give us some tips and guidelines for improving the shooting skills.
Crosshair Placement
“It is about trying to keep your crosshair where you expect opponents”, Loord explains, “to look at specific corners at a specific time.
Some players try to keep the crosshair low, while others prefer to keep it higher for headshots. It is also connected with the pattern of shooting that you want to use in specific situations. For example: when you want to tap/burst, you should keep your crosshair high for headshots. When you think that there are two or more opponents on the way, it is better to spray them down, so you place your crosshair lower. This is all about finding the right placement for different situations”.
Mariusz also brings attention to the patterns of spray and recoil for each weapon, adjusting your movement and shooting accordingly.
Settings
Settings like sensitivity and crosshair shape will have a direct influence on your performance. How to configure it properly? There is no formula, you should try various setups on your own. Test them, changing one characteristic at a time to feel how small details affect your gameplay.
Loord highlights that you should not copy other pro-players configurations, but try to find your own set that suits your mouse movements.
Strafe-shooting
Mariusz draws attention to strafe shooting training. You need it to make sure you will keep sharp even while moving out of your enemy’s sight. Strafe-shooting consists of classic evasive movements with A and D buttons, combined with the right timing to do a shortstop and shoot precisely. Flawless strafe-shooting determines who gets out alive and who has to wait until the next round. See how it works in the video below:
Equipment
Even though many players deny it, Team Kinguin’s coach confirms that a good set of a mouse and a mousepad does make a difference. An appropriate equipment will give the player a more solid performance along the matches.
Attitude
“Make sure you are serious about improving. Making fun of it reduces the gains”, says the coach. Did you miss that totally doable shot? Absorb it, analyze the mistake and apply the conclusion to your gameplay. If you just laugh and walk away, you will miss the opportunity to develop.
Love the Game
Make sure to watch top players, play a lot and really feel the game. Overall, the recommendation is to practice as much as you can.
Mariusz explains that it will condition your muscle memory, making it almost automatic to execute the ideal movements and allowing you to shot precisely from many angles. Playing deathmatches and practicing your aim with bots is absolutely a drill to be done daily. “Dedication and hard work are the keys to success”, finishes the coach.
