Following the announcement of Kinguin’s partnership with AS Monaco, one of the main football teams from France, let’s take a look at the top football institutions which also made their step into the world of professional gaming. These are clubs that know how to invest in esports and even hold some of the biggest esports teams in the world.
1 – AS Monaco
Let’s start with our favorite team – the one that we support as a sponsor and a key partner! AS Monaco is present in many esports competitions: they play FIFA, Rocket League, Hearthstone, Overwatch and Clash Royale.
2 – PSG (Paris Saint-Germain)
Perhaps the biggest rival of AS Monaco, considering it is another big French club with a heavy presence in esports. “But isn’t AS Monaco from… well, Monaco, and not France?”, you may ask. Indeed, but they still play in the French league, since Monaco doesn’t have one of its own. Anyway, PSG has two divisions competing with Monaco: Rocket League and FIFA, and the third one that plays League of Legends.
3 – Valencia
The Spanish team has a consolidated sports presence, currently holding divisions in Pro Evolution Soccer, Hearthstone, Clash Royale, Summoner’s Wars and FIFA. Although Barcelona recently announced its entrance into esports, Valencia is still the biggest Spanish representative on the scene.
4 – Schalke 04
With Germany being one of the biggest sports centers in the world, Schalke 04 decided to make heavy investments in the business. In a short time, the club elevated itself to the position of one of the main football organizations in the world to hold divisions in FIFA and League of Legends.
5 – VfL Wolfsburg
Also from Germany, the traditional green team was one of the first to enter esports, establishing its FIFA team in 2015. This is the only division Wolfsburg has had so far.
6 – Ajax
Ajax has a FIFA division that plays in Dutch esports tournaments, named eDivisie, along with many big teams from the country’s main football division, such as Twente, Feyenoord, etc.
8 – Manchester City
The blue team from Manchester is also present at virtual football fields, having two players signed in its FIFA roster.
9 – AS Roma
The team from the capital city was one of Italy’s first to step into esports, establishing a partnership with Fnatic to hold a FIFA division.
10 – Besiktas
All the Turkish main football teams, like Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Besiktas, hold really strong League of Legends teams. We highlighted Galatasaray here for also having invested in a FIFA roster.
Extra – F.C. Copenhagen
The Danish team deserves a big highlight for being the only one on this list to hold a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive division. The other teams think it could be damaging for their image to have a team playing a shooting game, but F.C. Copenhagen is way beyond that.
Do you think that other teams should be included? Do you support a team that we didn’t mention here? If so, leave a comment below!
